The future is now! A Scientist by the name of Dr. Sloof Von Lirpa and his team of researchers reinvented a type of steel, a breakthrough in metal technology “Trubonium”. By next year, Trubonium will take over the world. Frame builders are frantically pre booking the new material. A few frames already exist and are under prototype testing. Most certainly, Trubonium will become the choice material for bicycle frame design in 2006. ;D

[More:]

Thanks to a new law passed in America last week, all classified military information has been released to the public. Dr Lirpa and his brilliant team of engineers happened upon a formula that had much potential for practical use.

During the Cold War, scientists dabbled in all types of “hybrid” metals. Trubonium (originally named BS0501 by the US Military) was originally developed for uses of mass destruction. Due to many small problems, the material could not be manufactured safely in large quantities and was extremely involved to produce. Thanks to a modern day team of scientists, most of the “problems” associated with Trubonium have been addressed allowing the material to be user friendly.

In a nut shell, Trubonium is a metal that uses parallel strands of steel based on an organic style of webbing. Scientists have been studying the chemical composition of a spider’s web for over fifty years. Finally, a study showed how BS0501 could be manipulated to simulate the similarities of a web. Identical to ancient techniques use to construct a Samurai sword; each strand of this new steel is folded repeatedly and pounded to add massive amounts of strength.

The results are astonishing. One single microscopic strand of Trubonium is 250 times stronger than any other material in use today. The material is very easy to weld and doesn’t require heat treating. Bending the tubes into shape is an easy task except for one problem. Trubonium can only be bent into shape up to 1 hour after it is manufactured. After it is set into position, it can’t be reshaped.

100% Corrosion resistant! Using specific metal conditioners and urethane primers, Trubonium can be painted. Most welders and consumers will prefer the metals natural luster, similar to titanium.

As light as titanium, cheaper than mild steel! Double and triple butted tubes may become available for 2007. A Trubonium double butted tube weighs even less than straight wall titanium! Expect to see bike frame prices come way down! Next year, department store bikes could be made from the same material that your world cup racer is made from.

By wrapping Trubonium strands into a tube, designers can customize the frames ride quality. Straighter strands give a tube a compliant ride, similar to titanium. A tightly coiled wrap will give you a ride similar to Aluminum. Inventors call this wrap “Strand Grain”. As of now, frame designers have a choice of 95 different straight wall grains to help achieve the perfect ride.

Technology is jumping by leaps and bounds! Dr Sloof Von Lirpa must feel joyous looking back at himself in a mirror! His name has gone down in history. Before Trubonium becomes a household name, scientists will have to work out one problem. The material omits a strange odor, hardly noticeable to some, blatant and viol to others. Stick your nose up against it; you may smell something sort of familiar…
