What an amazing end to the Plattekill race series! Perfect weather and impressive race results by the DOWN Cycles team wrapped up racing for 2005. Ralph Quinones and Matt Kane spanked the competition in the 30-34yr old Expert class. Ralph easily took 1st place, Matt with an impressive 3rd. These riders’ skills have improved leaps and bounds over the years. Both riders have earned these top podium positions and deserve all the recognition. Down Hill mountain bike racing is a sport that requires lightening fast reflexes, and intense concentration. Racing will tweak your nerves, kill you bike and lighten your wallet. Injuries and rehab from crashes are always an ordeal and tough to overcome. Unfortunately, crashes and healing busted up body parts is part of the game as these racers and many others know about too well.
Ralph and Matt standing atop the awards podium together, hands high in the air, was magical, yet their wins were inevitable. Sheer determination and raw skill empower both riders. They train hard and stay focused regardless of the many obstacles one must overcome throughout an entire race series.
I’m proud to have these two athletes race for my team! I couldn’t be more impressed with their riding and even more so, with their 100% dedication to my shop. Congratulations to both! With talent like this, I’m sure we will see DOWN colors grace the podium in 2006!
As a side note: Plattekill will be open until Thanksgiving! This was not the last weekend! Take advantage of this opportunity. The trails are a bit sketchy thanks to the leaves that were once on the trees are now on the trails. Enjoy it if you can make it! I’m done with lift assist DH for 05. See you in 06.
